Union Jack dresser

I just had to do this one.  I really love a navy blue and red together.

And I have loved all the union jack whatevers on the blog, so here is my interpretation.

I picked up this great little dresser here in town.  Perfect.

The after.  I used Benjamin Moore's 'twilight zone' and 'santini blue'.  The red is craft paint---a true apple red.  Then topped it off with clear minwax.  I may be in the minority here or just don't know what I am doing, but I find Annie Sloane's clear wax dull and takes a long time to dry.  Minwax is just much easier for me.  I do however, like Annie Sloane paints either as a primer or stand alone.

Antique and Artisan coming up...

This post is about some lampshades I altered and the 'inspired' letters.

So I took a chair coverslip found at a garage sale and cut it in strips, ran a running

stitch through it  and using the lethal hot glue gun applied to the lamp shade.

Mucho, blurry strips.  I have a blister on my index finger from cutting numerous 2-3 inch strips.  Sheesh!

Ahhh...much clearer.  Don't know why I can't get a handle on my new camera.  Steady, steady.

And now, for the lamp (there are actually 2) in question.  Got them a few years ago from Target.  Functional, served their purpose and now at my mercy.

Other scraps for decoration on top of the interminable other strip scraps.

Dark picture, there will be another later on down the post.  This, after running stitchs, lots of hot gluing and a few yo-yos added.   I like it.  First attempt at this type of transformation.

Here are the lamps to the left, a far back view, as well as the previously yellow faux bois table now turqoise and pretty new knobs found at Hobby Lobby--such a wonderful selection.

I did not do this picture...I just like him especially with his Halloween mask on.

Ah, there is the final product of 'inspired'.  If I was hanging this in my own home (and I may if it does not sell)  I would put some battery powered string lights inside so that 'inspired' is lit up.  Also, under the inspired shadow box you can see the updated table turquoise table with gray faux bois and a faded stencil design.

The little table that could change X 2

Here's a table my husband picked up in his garage saling:

You know this table...everywhere.

Here I applied Martha Stewart's cornbread paint with an added light color glaze then used the faux bois instrument from Martha's line.  Really love it.

I love playing with this instrument.  This table did not stay this way, 'cause I am fickle,

however, it was just fine the way it was.

Another angle...if you want to try this technique it is worthy.  Difficult to find the instrument which is why I bought Martha's set and really, not a bad deal at all, comes with other instruments

that are worthy.  $15.00, very reasonable for many options available.

What is this...not furniture.  The lady who owns the store where I have a booth purchased these at some auction.  So I got letters for 'inspired' and next post you will see what I did with it.

Fall Mantle

Well, as usual this afternoon I was looking through beautiful blogs and came

across Fall in Love with Your Home linky party... and since I just did my

mantle yesterday...

The further back view--just painted the wall behind the fireplace a soft blue yesterday.  All those encyclopedias have been sitting on the mantle for a while--I take them down and take pictures

out of them for frames...soon, I am going to stack a few and make a lamp out of them.

This is a way overexposed picture of this fella and his horse, however it is the only picture that shows how colorful he is.

This print was purchased last Christmas from the etsy store junxtaposition---love her stuff (she is not a sponsor...I have none...just love her stuff!)

Chair Reconstructed

I picked up this chair at a garage sale for $5.  What a deal, huh?

However, it made me tired just thinking of how much work it was going to take to desconstruct and then reconstruct.  I took it apart within a day or two, but then it sat, while I waited in inspiration.

The cushion shows what the entire chair was covered with...pretty filthy, scratched up by a cat...funky, but sturdy and good bones.

From the back...really funky, holes from a 1000 staples...took about 5 hours to get this chair to this point.  Yeah, I knew right off this chair would make me tired.  But $5...I had to try.

I can't tell you how much this pleases me.  I am not a professional, only learning as I go, and this is far from perfect...but as I say I am pleased.

I bought this blanket at a thrift store for $5  in Fayetteville, Arkansas.  They had a number of really nice blankets...wish I had bought more.  I am not kidding $5. It was folded and taped...so I took a chance would look as good as what was visible.

As you can see, the upper wings are bare...haven't decided if I will leave it that way, kind of rustic and matches the vibe.

No, not reupholstered professional perfect, but I love it.

Summer Lovin'

Today I am going to hook up to Sarah's Modern Country Style Summer Lovin' party.  At the outset I must say that this summer was absolutely brutal on the yard.

So some of these pics are from my back yard and from spots recently visited.

It is just sad to see the lawn, so I have mostly refrained.

As you can see---looks like hay...I am sure many of you can relate.

A little happy spot, before the 90 plus degrees for over 50 days...many days touching 100.

The roses, early in the summer.  Pretty for a short time...these roses are kind of finicky and

their show is limited.

Trumpet vine...more of a weed than a high end flower...but a pop of orange.

A mosaic chair I made years ago through the lavender.  So heavy it will have be sold with the

house should we ever leave.

So my crops this year were sunflowers and tomatoes.  I usually do so much more.  Weird, like I knew it wasn't going to be.

Last week we went to Eureka Springs, Arkansas for my birthday/vacation to our usual hotel, Matterhorn Towers (german theme and sensible prices).  Here's few poolside pics.

French transfer table

This is my first attempt at transferring a design to a table redo.   It was fairly easy and I look forward to doing another soon.

So here is the table in it's original state. 

After a little paint

Oops...not yet...seriously needing paint.

Then I put some graphite paper down and my photocopy on top found on

the Graphics Fairy site.  Such a treasure that site.

After the transfer was done using a pencil, I then painted over with an

acrylic pen (black and gold for accent).

This turned out pretty well for my first attempt.  Next time I am going to get

a little more aggressive with the sanding before doing the transfer (a little too bumpy)

and I will sand more after painting the french words.  Good learning

experience.

Before and Afters

I have been doing before and afters, lots of them, but not putting

them on my blog.  So busy with getting these tasks done and putting things

in my booth.  So here are my latest projects:

Found this mission chair in the back of someone's garage.  In pretty good

condition except for the seat and a missing cushion.  This chair was uber easy to take

apart, do a little gluing and put back together.  Even the new upholstering was fairly

painless.

Next up, a little buffet that was rescued from a little local thrift store called 'Victory

Vintage'.  Can always find some sort of something there.

Then the after.  Realy like how this one turned out.

Obviously, this is just a close up of the detail.  Will have a full picture later, though it is a little washed out.

Uh, yeah, heavy, shiny pressed wood.  Functional.

Blue, dark stain and a big fat sunflower.  Like.

After only.  Just imagine a maple wood tone.  Saw this design someone had applied to a much nicer piece of furniture on Design Sponge and also Before and After.  Sold in 2 days at the booth.

My husband brought home this matching set of oil/prints that just didn't move me, so I turned them into something I liked better.  Here's another:

I'll be hooking this up to Funky Junk Interiors.  For me, it all started with her--the inspiration and the help, whenever I wrote to her.  Gotta love a girl like that!

Sturdy Table

I found this little table while stopping at garage sales.  This lady had bunches of things.

This little table is sturdy, hefty, original.

Beautiful dovetailing on the drawers.

Out in the shop (garage at 100 degrees) I applied Restore dark walnut.  The pictures do not reflect

the 'dark walnut'.  Due to the bright sunshine pictures do not show the true darkness.

I got this stencil from Cutting Edge stencils, 'Damask Rose'.  I originally got this to use in the foyer...

one of these days I will get around to that.

I used stencil adhesive due to the intricacy of the pattern.  Paint is Benjamin Moore's Graphite.

I have used this paint on other furniture and my living room walls.  Beautiful, rich, dark grey blue.

Doesn't really translate in the picture.

Currently, this table is residing in my booth.  However, if it does not sell I may kidnap

it for the kitchen...it would make a great little prep table for my small kitchen.  I will be hooking this project up to Addicted2decorating and Funky Junk Interiors Saturday Night Special.

Kitchen

I am joining in on Sarah's Kitchen Favorites party at Modern Country Style.  So here's my kitchen still very much a work in progress.  Also, I cleared out a lot of stuff for this post.  Doesn't usually look this uncluttered, but I like it and wish it would stay that way. 

The hutch is pretty empty...looking for white things.

One of my favorite pictures I own purchased from Cottage Caboodle in Eureka Springs,

Arkansas.

My horse recently purchased from a flea market.  It is big and heavy.  I paid $40 for it and there was a price tag on it for $249.  

A very dark corner...sorry 'bout that.

I am not sure why these pictures are so fuzzy..new camera, still learning, early....

And Mr. Rembrandt.  Love him...don't know if he really belongs in the kitchen, but looks good to me.
